Field Trip - Monday, 19 July 2010
External & Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park
On Monday 19 July, 2010, Delegates have the opportunity to attend an educational field trip to the Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute at Menangle that will depart the Showground at 10am and return at 3pm. Delegates can also choose to meet at the Institute as this may be on your way to the Sydney Showground. Lunch and afternoon tea will be provided at no charge to delegates attending the field trip. Numbers are limited for the field trip and bookings are essential via the online booking form (Delegates Only) or by faxing back the special event booking form Delegates would have received in their Delegate Information Kit (posted in late June 2010).

Meeting place: Off site (Meet at the Novotel at 9.45am or meet at the Institute at 11.00am)

The Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute is Industry & Investments Centre for Animal and Plant Health, incorporating the Centre for Excellence of Plant and Animal Health, and the NSW Centre for Plant and Animal Biosecurity. With more than 200 staff the EMAI undertakes research, diagnostics and advisory services.
The Field Trip will include the following:
- Meet and greet with EMAI Director Paul Arthur who will provide a presentation on EMAI and also an update on the $53 million dollar facility which is being built.
- Presentation by Peter Kirkland, Team Leader for Virology who will present on the research currently being undertaken at the Institute.
- Presentation by Les Garbor, Laboratory Leader at EMCI who has a background in veterinary pathology and will take the delegation on a tour of the labs.
- Visit to the Fruit Fly Factory Facility.
